Housing Development Slated For Southpoint

A housing developer D.R. Horton announced plan to build a town house condominium community in the Southpoint area to attract the broad base of office workers in the heart of the growing Butler Boulevard-Interstate 95 corporate base. Target market is single professionals and couples from the late 20s to their 40s.

The Jacksonville division of D.R. Horton wants to build the 93-unit gated Deerfoot Point at Bonneval Road and Financial Way. Deerfoot Point will comprise 31 buildings, each featuring three units. each building will house a 1,083-sq.ft., 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom unit with a one-car garage; a 1,557-sq.ft., 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath unit with a one-car garage; and a 1,597-sq.ft., 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath unit with a two-car garage. The garages lead directly into the units either by way of the foyer or the breakfast area. There also will be an amenity center. Prices for the 62 three-bedroom units and the 31 two-bedroom units have not been determined.

The developer intends to buy property in the Galleria, one of many office and hotel centers that populate the four quadrants of Butler and I-95. The Galleria is south of Butler between Philips Highway and the interstate.

The Jacksonville Planning and Development Department is reviewing the plans. The project agent and engineer is Hill, Boring, Dunn & Associates Inc. and the surveyor is Boatwright Land Surveyors Inc. of Jacksonville Beach.

Bob Porter, D.R. Horton senior vice president of land acquisition and development in Jacksonville, said models should be available around the first of the year. He said the property is under contract.
