In the early part of the 19th century, pirates

The neighborhood just north of Centre Street
in Fernandina beach was dubbed "the silk

During the World War II, four Nazi saboteurs
carrying cash and explosives paddled to shore
from a German submarine off Ponte Vedra Beach.
Their mission, dubbed "Operation
Pastorious," was to commit acts of

federal authorities.
